About 13,000 Duke Energy customers in the Upstate remained without power early Friday evening after a mid-da thunderstorm.
More than 20,000 customers initially lost power, according to a Duke Energy outage map.
About 12,000 power outages were reported in the Greenville area — particularly around Brushy Creek Road. There were 2,000 reported outages around Spartanburg and 2,000 near Travelers Rest, according to a Duke Energy outage map at 3:40 p.m.
By 5:45 p.m., most of the outages were in the Spartanburg area.
Duke Energy estimated power would be restored in many areas late Friday.
