Trustees approve $487K agreement for Erie Community Park construction documents – Colorado Hometown Weekly

The Erie Board of Trustees on Tuesday unanimously agreed to spend $487,000 with Design Concepts on construction documents for the final phase of Erie Community Park.

In March, trustees approved the master plan for the final phase of the park. The plan encompasses 12 acres and offers passive and active recreation uses including amenities such as fitness trails, basketball courts, sensory gardens, outdoor reading rooms, shaded picnic areas and gathering areas.

Design Concepts has been the landscape architect firm on the project since 2017.

Once construction documents are finished, staff will come back to trustees seeking approval of funds for construction.

“Upon completing these, it’s the town’s intent to go out to bid,” said Deputy Town Administrator Farrell Buller.

The project will be funded from the Parks Improvement Impact Fund. Fees are collected from residential development projects and must be used to construct new park amenities for community use.

Buller also told the board the town has received grants for just under $1.5 million  for the park project.

“Should we not go ahead with the construction documents, we will be releasing those dollars back,” Buller said. “We already have enough dollars to build the park. The grants were just a huge bonus to deliver this to the community, and finishing our only community park.”

Construction could begin in 2021.
