Walt Disney World Resort is typically known as the Most Magical Place on Earth, but that doesn’t mean that real-world issues can’t take place while in the vacation kingdom. When one family had a traumatic experience, a teenager (who was a complete stranger) saved the day.
As spring break crowds took over Disney World for March, Orlando saw a huge influx of Guests visiting for vacations. With theme parks from Disney World to Universal Orlando Resort consistently hitting capacity, surrounding hotels also saw a spike in Guests.
When people come to Orlando to vacation, however, they don’t always spend each day at Disney, but sometimes, visitors can have the urge to escape the Florida heat at their hotel pool!
Recently, however, an almost fatal incident took place at an Orlando hotel pool, and a teenager on her Disney vacation rushed to save the day.
According to Newsweek, “Kaydence Henslee, 13, was spending her spring break visiting Disney World with her family. During a pool day at their hotel, she noticed a small unconscious body in the deep end of the water.”
So, it seems that The Incredibles was right — not all heroes wear capes!
Three-year-old Haven Williams who was also on vacation with her family, when her mother Ashley saw “another woman run across and yell into the bar area for someone to call 911 because a baby had just drowned”, Ashley continued to say, “I didn’t think it was my baby.”
13-year-old Kaydence said, “I was scared and nervous and afraid, but my instincts kicked in. I just saw her kind of floating. She wasn’t technically on the bottom when I was there.”
Both Kaydence and another bystander helped perform CPR on baby Haven until medics arrived, and although things were not so stable at one point, little Haven made a full recovery by 5 a.m. the next morning.
Ashley, Haven’s mom, is forever thankful for Kaydence noticing Haven when she did. The mother said, “Even the doctors are saying that whoever got her out of the water did it at a perfect time because if she would have been under the water a little longer, it would have been a different outcome.”
Disney fan and teenager Kaydence is now looking into getting her CPR certification so she can always be prepared in the future to assist anyone if needed!
Currently, it is unclear which hotel in the Orlando area where this incident occurred — just that the families were in town to visit Disney World — however, according to WFLA, the hotel was not located on Disney World property.
All main pools on Walt Disney World Resort property have fully trained lifeguards on deck at all times surveying the pool to ensure Guests are always safe, and if need be, they are the ones who would assist in incidents such as these.

Although Kaydence may not have been staying on Disney World property, it seems that when she went to visit Mickey Mouse while on vacation, a true hero walked through the gates!
