Amazon.com Inc. stock underperforms Friday when compared to competitors

Better Buy: Shopify vs. Amazon

Shoppers have been left waiting for months to get their hands on Sony’s new PlayStation 5 console – but there might actually be some hope this week.

The PS5 went on sale across the UK back in November 2020, but with shops closed due to lockdown, it was a race for many hoping to get one.

After pre-orders sold out in minutes and shoppers were met with website glitches , many have been left wondering if and when the device would ever come back into stock.

In December, Sony announced that more Playstation 5 stock would be available in stores before the end of 2020.

While it seemed only Amazon had received stock before the new year, gamers have their hopes up again this week as rumours of stock circulating.

Twitter accounts which frequently keep an eye out for stock are claiming PS5 consoles could be dropping into stores from today, January 7.

According to Twitter user @Ps5StockUK3, stores including Amazon, Argos and Curry’s are the most likely to receive stock.

They also say it’s likely to drop between 9am and 1pm, so you’ll have to be quick.

Stock can come and go in minutes so it’s best to keep checking and to make sure you have accounts set up with the main retailers and a payment method ready to go.

We’ve taken a look at the latest updates from the retailer’s most likely to get stock, and here’s what we found:

John Lewis

A statement on the John Lewis website said: “Thank you to everyone who has visited us and placed an order for a PS5. We are now out of stock.

“Unfortunately, PlayStation 5 consoles will not be available for purchase at our John Lewis & Partners shops or from our contact centres.”

Very

Online retailer Very shared a statement to its website , which reads: “Unfortunately we have sold out of our PS5 consoles for now. We have more stock coming so keep checking back for our next drop.”

Argos

Argos has not listed an update on when shoppers can expect more stock.

AO

A note on AO’s website says: “Sorry, Playstation 5 is currently unavailable.”

Amazon

Despite some stock being available last week, Amazon’s website now says the retailer does not know “when or if” the PS5 will be back in stock.

Smyths

Smyths has now sold out of its allocated stock. A message on the retailer’s website says that PS5 stock is now not expected until January 2021, meaning a restock could be arriving any day now.

According to Twitter user @MoonsUGN, who frequently shares PS5 stock updates, Smyths is expecting stock this month.

Game

Game no longer has PS5 stock available, with no update on when new stock will arrive.

Though, as one of the leading gaming retailers on the market, we’d expect Game to be among the first to have new stock.

Currys

A note on Curry’s website says the retailer is “working tirelessly to secure more stock” and customers should check back for updates.
